I have now been successful in getting a key for Windows Vista twice to try to latest release. The only problem is that the server was overloaded every time. How on earth can a reseller like myself who needs to know from firsthand experience how the product works and why clients should upgrade get my hands on the latest candidate or RTM? The keys don' do much good without the product. I was hoping Microsoft would give us a trial copy at the launch in Toronto but that didn't happne.

I was out of the country for two weeks after giving up on the download after getting the first key.

Scary stuff.

1. There is a bug in the Windows hotfix installer (Update.exe) which MS hasn't fixed for XP. Update.exe hangs while installing when the catalog files for the updates (*.cat located in the Catroot folder) get more than 200+. Hope this is already fixed in Vista or will be fixed by SP1.

2.  Can MS add a switch to Update.exe to bypass creation of a system restore point?

Hello, I really don't know if I'm posting in the right place... But I'm not able to update my RC1 of Vista, because the O.S. doesn't recognize my ADSL modem. What can I do ?

Rather than waffle on about how wonderful Vista is going to be and patting yourselves on the back, if might be a good idea for Microsoft to announce how the hell we obtain serialization numbers for the cheap Vista upgrade which came with my recent newly purchased computer and not just me! Take a look at the web guys! Nobody knows where the hell to look for it or where the hell to get it from! We don't even know what it is?

Hey ascanio:  sounds to me like a driver issue -- I'd suggest you check the manufacturer's Web site and if that doesn't provide you an updated driver, then you'll probably want to wait for the RTM edition to release.

Hey MickY G:  sounds like you're referring to the upgrade from Windows XP to Windows Vista, which is not yet possible due to the fact that we've not yet reached retail availability (30 Jan).

I upgraded from XP(All SP's and patched were up to date) to Window Business.  When following the post install task list, I recieved the following error: "Windows could not search for new updates. Code 80244019".  I have not been able to find an asnwer as to what the problem is.  

From your post on December 27th I may have found the asnwer... is that the case?  Or do I have another problem?  If so, where can I find the answer?

For what my 2 bob is worth people, I have been using Vista RC1 in Australia for months, along with Live One Care, Windows Live web site, Office Live 2007 and a lot more. I bit the bullet and installed all this on my main machine (I also did a lot of backups) and I have not had any serious problems, Vista seems to work best (for me anyhow) if you have an  external hard drive and use OneCare, it does a weekly tune up, removes not needed files and backs up automaticly, I reckon it is pretty good. My only complaints are, I have an iMate PDA that used to sync with outlook, my version of Vista cannot do that as yet, so I do this on my laptop still running XP Pro. The other problem is (and this really pisses me off) that some of the software, and the hardware (new fully complient Vista machine) will not work. I think, the biggest problem is the slack arse people outside Microsoft have a lot to answer for, also I think "Uncle Bill" should get better connected with the Vista update feature for both software and hardware, at present it is not good. The hardware makers say it is a Microsoft problem, Microsoft says it is the hardware people. That does my friends, piss me off.
